What is Priority Percentage Giving?
"On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made." 1 Corinthians 16:2 (NIV)

At The Rocks Church, we don't believe in giving as a law; giving is a privilege and should come from a heart that knows that God has first given us his best--His Son Jesus Christ and that God has called us to partner with Him in spreading this message of reconciliation.

At The Rocks Church, we don't believe in giving as a law; giving is a privilege and should come from a heart that knows that God has first given us his best--His Son Jesus Christ and that God has called us to partner with Him in spreading this message of reconciliation.
1. PRIORITY
- God needs to be first priority when it comes to our money (Matthew 6:33, 1 Corinthians 16:2).
- It means you put God first and foremost by giving off the top before you pay for everything else.
- Giving off the top can help minimise fear because you don’t have to worry about things at the end of the month because you have already given priority to ministries that help advance the Kingdom of God.
2. PERCENTAGE
- We believe giving 10% is a good guideline to start with. But this shouldn't be taken as the law. We should set aside a percentage according to our income and we should be continually trying to reprioritise our lives to give more.
- If you’re new to giving, start with 10%. But if you cannot give 10% yet, give any percentage that will stretch you, and make 10% your target.
- For others, giving more than 10% – much, much more – is completely appropriate. Those who have been blessed with abundant resource, or those who are already living disciplined, financially responsible, frugal, contented lives, usually find there is great joy in being able to give as they are able.
3. GIVING
- Our God is the God who gives. That's why not giving is really not an option for a follower of Christ.
- Worship, expressed through giving, is about the direction one is moving, not the percentage one is giving.
What is Kingdom Builders?
- To put simply, a Kingdom Builder is someone who gives regularly to The Rocks.
- Specifically, a Kingdom Builder is someone who is committed to put God and His kingdom first financially by giving a PRIORITY PERCENTAGE GIVING.
- That means, you make a decision to REGULARLY set aside a percentage of your income every month (we recommend giving 10%). Your regular giving helps us to better plan how to use our God-given resources to carry out our ministry. You may give any amount and you can stop any time.
Why Should I Give?
- At The Rocks we believe that guilt and obligation should never be part of anyone’s giving equation, just delight at the opportunity. We love to see those whom God has blessed with financial resource find great joy in giving generously.
- When you give, you are trusting God with your resources, and you recognise what you own is God’s and not yours. Giving helps you recognise God’s ownership of your life; We should reprioritise our lives to give regularly, and give more over time.
- Giving should be worshipful acknowledgment of our dependence on God. It is something we should do because it brings us great joy. It should be so exciting to us that we seek out opportunities to give.
Why Should I Give to The Rocks?
- As followers of Christ, your primary priority in this world should be to introduce people to the love of Jesus Christ. Nothing should be more rewarding to a Christ- follower than knowing that God has used them and their money to bring people who are far from God to know Him and His love. And that's what we do here at The Rocks.
- Your giving to The Rocks gives us the opportunity to do what we are called to do: proclaim the message of God's love and grace in Jesus Christ, build an authentic community for real growth and help those who are in need.
- We believe in outreach through partnership. Together, we can make a bigger impact than on our own. At The Rocks, we pledge to continue to be good soil for your generosity. We exist to see those who are far from God raised to life in Christ and we would love for you to join us in that mission.
- We partner with non-profit organisations both locally (such as Sonshine, Compassion Australia, Prison Fellowship, Fusion, Pregnancy Problem House, The Crew) and internationally to empower children and families, feed the hungry, fight homelessness, and respond to the needs of people in crisis,
Why Should I Give Regularly?
- Giving regularly help minimise fear because you don’t have to worry about things at the end of the month because you have already given priority to ministries that help advance the Kingdom of God.
- Giving regularly also help us to plan better and be a good steward of what you have entrusted to God through us.
Tithe vs. Priority Percentage Giving
At The Rocks, we understand that many Christians wonder about the role of tithing in their faith journey. Traditionally, tithing involves giving 10% of your income to the church, but we encourage a broader perspective known as Priority Percentage Giving. This approach, grounded in biblical teachings, focuses on making giving a priority in your life by setting aside a specific percentage of your income, rather than adhering strictly to the 10% rule.
The idea behind Priority Percentage Giving is to honour God with your resources in a way that reflects personal commitment and spiritual growth. In both the Old and New Testaments, the Bible encourages believers to give the first and best of what they have, and to make giving a regular, intentional practice. By prioritising your giving, you’re not only acknowledging that everything belongs to God, but you’re also inviting His blessings into your life.
Whether you’re new to giving or have been practising it for years, Priority Percentage Giving allows for flexibility and growth. You can start with a percentage that aligns with your current situation, with the goal of increasing it as your faith and trust in God’s provision grow. Ultimately, the focus is on giving cheerfully and generously, trusting that God will bless your commitment to prioritising Him in your financial decisions.

How Can I Commit to Give?
- PRAY. Our real battle is not in the physical realm but in the spiritual (Ephesians 6:12). Ask God to reveal to you how much percentage you should give. Don’t be surprised by the amount. It could be bigger than you thought. Please be aware that spiritual attack may happen as the enemy will not be happy with what you are doing.
- DECIDE. Decide how much percentage of your income you believe God wants you to give. Don’t decide on an amount just because it is what you are able and feel comfortable to give. Ask God for a stretched amount beyond your comfort zone; one that will cost you and cause you to trust Him. God can either increase your income or enable you to give sacrificially like cutting back on spendings, changing to a smaller car, or postponing your holiday because you catch his vision for this world.
- COMMIT. Write down the amount God has laid on your heart. Giving regularly every month usually result in giving more than just a large one-time giving. Commit this amount to God trusting that He will enable you to fulfil them.
What Should I Expect When I Start Giving Regularly?
- EXPECT TO SEE SOME MIRACLES
When you start giving, you might notice some remarkable things happening. Whether you're a person of faith or just exploring, taking steps to be generous can open doors to unexpected blessings and opportunities. Throughout history, whenever people have taken bold steps in faith or simply acted generously, incredible things have happened. - EXPECT TO GROW IN NEW WAYS
Giving regularly can lead to personal growth, pushing you gently out of your comfort zone. It’s a chance to develop your character, build resilience, and deepen your values. Many people who’ve committed to giving have shared how it’s helped them grow in ways they never imagined, fostering a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment. - EXPECT SOME CHALLENGES ALONG THE WAY.
It’s natural to face challenges when you start something new, especially something meaningful like giving. Distractions, doubts, and obstacles might come your way, but these moments can also be opportunities to strengthen your resolve. Remember, growth often comes through overcoming challenges. - EXPECT TO EXPERIENCE JOY.
There’s a special kind of joy that comes from giving. When you take a risk, make a sacrifice, or invest in something bigger than yourself, it can fill you with a sense of joy and satisfaction. Many find that giving not only helps others but also brings a deep and lasting happiness into their own lives.
Wouldn’t my giving be more useful if I give it to the 3rd world countries?
While giving to third-world countries is incredibly valuable, supporting your local church is just as important. At The Rocks Church, we believe every person is precious to God, whether they’re in Perth or across the globe. Your local giving helps us make a real impact in our community, sharing God’s love and the Gospel with those around us, while also enabling us to continue supporting global missions.
