Most of us have walked past someone in need and thought about it all day. Compassion always competes with convenience, and convenience usually wins. But in Matthew 25 Jesus says the King will not ask how much theology we knew. He will ask how we treated the vulnerable: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.” Compassion is not merely generosity. It is worship. We cannot help everyone, but we can do for one what we wish we could do for everyone. This Compassion Sunday, will followers of Jesus respond?
