The Shepherd of Tribalism

Tribalism teaches us to fear, dismiss or despise people who are different from us. Jesus offers another way. Psalm 23 pictures God preparing a table right in the presence of our enemies—a place of protection, healing and abundance. Instead of rushing past Jesus’ table to surround ourselves with people who think, vote and live like us, what if we stayed? And what if the overflow of that table became hospitality, generosity and justice for others—even people we struggle to understand?
